The Provost's Office has mandated that the Annual Performance and Post-Tenure Review Process must include consideration of Faculty participation in the Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs. Reviews shall encompass the areas of Teaching, Research and Service, as applicable. The following procedures for the review of Faculty Members participating in the GIDPs have been implemented. This process is designed to provide recognition of Faculty contributions to the GIDPs.

Procedures for GIDP Faculty Members whose Tenure Line resides in a Department or Academic Unit other than a GIDP:

Faculty Members whose tenure lines are within in a department or academic unit other than a GIDP will be evaluated according to the procedures set forth by that department or academic unit and in compliance with UHAP guidelines [3.10].

Annual reviews of Faculty Members' contributions to the GIDP will be carried out according to individual Program Bylaws (as required by the Guidelines for Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs Section II.A-13). Faculty Members should submit a written statement to the GIDP outlining their involvement in the GIDP and noting the percentage of their total workload spent in GIDP activities. Each annual review should address the past three calendar years of the individual faculty member's performance [UHAP 3.10.05]. Individual GIDPs may chose to ask faculty members for a complete three year review each calendar year or, alternatively, they may ask faculty to provide a statement which covers the previous calendar year and append the previous two years reports. A copy of the faculty member's complete annual review statement should also be sent to the Faculty Member's primary department or academic unit for inclusion in her/his Annual Performance and Post-Tenure Review dossier. The GIDP will provide written feedback on the Faculty Member's statement within 30 days. These comments will be forwarded to both the Faculty Member and the head of his/her primary department or academic unit for inclusion in her/his Annual Performance and Post-Tenure Review dossier.
- Faculty Members may opt to appeal GIDP reviews according to provisions set forth in individual Program Bylaws, with the Director of Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs, or with the GIDP Advisory Council. The GIDP Advisory Council will consist of six GIDP Faculty Members. GIDP Advisory Council Members will serve three year terms, with service staggered such that two new members are added every year as two members fulfill their terms. The GIDP Advisory Council shall be elected by secret ballot from a slate of Faculty Members that have been nominated by the Executive Committee Members of the GIDPs. Elections will be held among the Faculty Members of the GIDPs every October.
- Procedures for GIDP Chairs whose Tenure Line resides in a Department or Academic Unit other than a GIDP:
- Chairs whose tenure lines are within in a department or academic unit other than a GIDP shall be evaluated according to the procedures set forth by that department or academic unit and in agreement with UHAP guidelines [3.10].
- Chairs will submit an Annual Performance report to the Director of Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs. The Chairs should also provide a copy of this report to their primary department or academic unit for inclusion in their Annual Performance and Post-Tenure Review dossier. The report should include an outline of the Chair's involvement in the GIDP as well as a statement of objectives for the upcoming year. The Chair should also note the percentage of their total workload spent in GIDP related activities. This report shall cover the period January 1 through December 31 of the previous year and should be submitted with copies of the two previous years reports attached, in order to provide a three year perspective [UHAP 3.10.05]. The Director of Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs will provide written feedback on the Chair's report within 30 days. Annual Performance and Post-Tenure Reviews shall cover the period January 1 through December 31 of the previous year with copies of the two previous years reports attached in order to provide a three year perspective [UHAP 3.10.05].
- Appeals of Annual Performance Review for non-tenured Faculty will be conducted in accordance with UHAP guidelines [3.10.06].
- Appeals or Enhanced Reviews of the Annual Performance and Post-Tenure Review for tenured Faculty will be conducted in accordance with UHAP guidelines [3.10.04].
- Faculty Members whose tenure lines are within a GIDP may opt to have an Enhanced Review by the six member GIDP Advisory Council. The GIDP Advisory Council will consist of six GIDP Faculty Members. GIDP Advisory Council Members will serve three year terms, with service staggered such that two new members are added every year as two members fulfill their terms. The GIDP Advisory Council shall be elected by secret ballot from a slate of Faculty Members that have been nominated by the Executive Committee Members of the GIDPs. Elections will be held among the Faculty Members of the GIDPs every October. Other options for Enhanced Reviews are outlined in UHAP guidelines [3.10.04(2)].
- Procedures for GIDP Chairs whose Tenure Line resides in a Graduate Interdisciplinary Program:
- Annual Performance and Post-Tenure Review of Chairs whose tenure lines are within a GIDP shall be conducted by the GIDP Advisory Council in compliance with UHAP guidelines [3.10]. The GIDP Advisory Council will consist of six GIDP Faculty Members. GIDP Advisory Council Members will serve three year terms, with service staggered such that two new members are added every year as two members fulfill their terms. The GIDP Advisory Council shall be elected by secret ballot from a slate of Faculty Members that have been nominated by the Executive Committee Members of the GIDPs. Elections will be held among the Faculty Members of the GIDPs every October.
- The Chair will submit an Annual Performance report outlining his/her activities as Chair to the Director of Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs. A statement of objectives for the upcoming year should be included. This report must be submitted no later than January 31 of each year and shall cover the period January 1 through December 31 of the previous year. The previous two years reports should be appended in order to provide the three year perspective required by UHAP [3.10.05]. This statement shall serve as the primary source of information for the review by the GIDP Advisory Council and the Director of Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs. The assessment of performance shall include an evaluation by both the GIDP Advisory Council and the Director of Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs.
- The GIDP Advisory Council will submit their evaluation to the Director of Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs by April 15.The Director of Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs will meet with the Chair to discuss the evaluation by May 15.
- Appeals of the Annual Performance Review for non-tenured Chairs will be conducted in accordance with UHAP guidelines [3.10.06].
- Appeals or Enhanced Reviews of the Annual Performance and Post-Tenure Review for tenured Chairs will be conducted in accordance with UHAP guidelines [3.10.04].
- The University's Enhanced Review Board will be available to serve for Enhanced Reviews of the GIDP Chairs whose tenure lines are within a GIDP. This will be done in accordance with UHAP guidelines.
