Bio: BME poster winner Nathaniel 'Ned' Kirkpatrick graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wyoming in 2002. He then joined the Biomedical Engineering program at the University of Arizona because of its interdisciplinary strengths and clinically translatable research. Ned’s research focuses on applying optical techniques to investigate biological and biomedical related questions. Specifically, he uses multiphoton imaging to visualize vessel/matrix interactions in angiogenesis in order to understand some of the underlying mechanisms in this process as well as assesses changes in ovarian tissue in order to improve early detection of ovarian cancer. Besides research, Ned enjoys spending time with his wife playing outdoors with their dog Cooper, fishing, and playing golf.
