Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs
Herbert E. Carter Travel Award


To be eligible for a Herbert E. Carter Travel Award, you must:
  • be enrolled in a degree granting Graduate Interdisciplinary Program (major)
  • be in good standing (not provisional)
  • have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • be selected to either present a paper, poster or talk at a professional meeting
  • be the graduate student who is conducting the research for which the paper, poster or talk is being presented

The award is intended to offset some of the costs associated with international or national travel expenses such as airfare, meals and registration fees. Complete applications must be received in the GIDP Administration Office by the posted deadlines below. Only complete applications will be considered by GIDPAC. These awards are meritorious and will be granted on the competitive and innovative content of the abstract submitted with the application, as determined by GIDPAC. Awards are contingent upon the availability of funds and the number of applications per session. Students are eligible to receive up to total of $600 per fiscal year.*

However, students are only allowed to:

NEW
  • receive a maximum of two awards per academic degree: 2 while doing a masters and 2 while doing a Ph.D.
  • submit only one application per session
* The fiscal year begins on July 1st and ends on June 30 of the following year. The award is for the conference and dates as specified on the winning application only.

February 12, 2010 April 1, 2010 - June 30, 2010
May 14, 2010 July 1, 2010 - September 30, 2010


How to submit a complete application:
  1. Complete the online application and a 1 to 2 page abstract in pdf and send them as an email attachment addressed to GIDPAC: gidp@email.arizona.edu
  2. Print out a hard copy of the electronic application and abstract. Obtain all the required signatures on the application.
  3. Submit electronically or photocopy the acceptance letter and registration form pertaining to the conference or professional meeting you will be attending.
  4. Submit all documents listed above to the GIDP Administrative Office. The hard copy application must have original signatures. The date all requirements are met will be considered your application date. Submit the hard copy version of the application to:

NOTE: All Herbert E. Carter Travel Awards will be processed in accordance with The University of Arizona's policy.


Post travel requirements:

Within two weeks of your return from the conference or professional meeting submit to the GIDP Administration Office:
  1. Original receipts in the amount equivalent to your award.
  2. A one to two page summary of your experience in doc.
  3. Digital photo of yourself.

All abstracts, summaries and photos will be posted on the GIDP website.
